To clean a handgun, begin by releasing the magazine, remove the slide from the receiver, and perhaps take the barrel out (if you’d like a deeper clean). You’ll want to use your favorite liquid or canned solvent. Let’s break the rest down into rapid-fire bullet points.
• Swab the barrel out of your handgun.
• Clean the Slide Rails of your handgun with a Q-tip.
• Oil your handgun down with a separate Q-tip.
• Assure that the handgun slider is clean and free of debris. This may require a spray.
• Clean the handgun magazine well from both sides.
Now you’re ready to reassemble the firearm. Start by reconnecting the slide release, then reengage the takedown tool. Assure that it functions by pulling it back several times.
If you’ve got more time to spare and would prefer a more thorough gun cleaning, this Concealed Carry Training Video also showcases a more extensive cleaning method.
